With so many beauty fads and bizarre treatments, it’s easy to lose sight of what your skin really needs. In reality, beauty stems from nature and good skincare does not need to be expensive or complex, it starts with the basics.
Enough Water
One of the most important factors to healthy skin is hydration. Water aids in digestion, circulation, absorption and even excretion, enabling your body and skin to get rid of toxins which allows for your skin to be more radiant and glowing. If your skin is not getting the sufficient amount of water it needs, the lack of hydration will present itself by turning your skin dry, tight and flaky. Aim for at least eight glasses of water each day and your skin will thank you for it.
Sufficient Sleep
Insufficient sleep is one of the leading causes of premature aging. The time spent while your body is shut down and sleeping is used to repair and restore your cellular tissues, ensuring skins optimal vitality. If you don’t get your 7-8 hours of sleep each night, your skin will appear dull, unhealthy and more prone to wrinkles and breakouts. Adequate sleep will keep you feeling healthier and looking younger for longer.
Avoiding UV Radiation
A bit of sun is great for your skin as it stimulates the production of Vitamin D, but too much sun will damage your skin and promote early onset of wrinkles and pigmentation. Now lets face it none of us want to age, but there is a difference in premature aging and graceful aging. We cant stop the aging process completely, but we can do things to slow it down a little bit.
Avoid direct exposure and apply sunblock whenever you have to go out during the day, remember even when the sun is hiding, the UV rays are not. So be sure to still apply sunblock on overcast days.
Nature’s Touch
Finally, opt for cruelty free natural cosmetics over products that contain countless artificial ingredients, chemicals, fragrances and preservatives.
Be realistic and mindful of the fact that most skincare products (even organic) ones do require a preservative to prevent product decomposition. Some preservatives however, have been well researched and found to do more harmful than others, be sure to do your research on the list of ingredients before you apply them to your skin.
